My Opinion of Belle from Once Upon a Time

Deviation Actions

It’s not Belle. It’s not the Belle French we know and love. Our Belle would never dump Rumple because of a simple assumption. She would forgive, listen, and be more understanding than this. This new Belle is unforgiving, hateful, and even short-fused. She is a dark Belle, an unpredictable Belle. Something’s got the good Belle and imprisoned her deep inside the body of the bad Belle.

I would like to think back to the book Teardrop. In the story, Eureka’s best friend Brooks becomes possessed by a dark force and does everything he can to hurt her to the point she could cry. I have to say that the actions of Brooks when he’s possessed are very parallel to Belle’s new behavior. Like the mind of the one possessing Brooks, I think that Belle’s anger and distrust have gotten control of her and she’s not herself anymore.

If you’re not convinced that Belle is currently displaying her bad self, let me ask you this: would the good, kindhearted Belle cheat on her husband while he’s out of town…by her hand? Would the loving Belle just discard Rumple like a useless, pathetic doll and get him as far away from her as possible? And would the wise Belle just listen to the words of someone who wasn’t born at that time and yet held a bad view of his father? The answer to all three questions is “no”. The good Belle would shower her husband with unconditional love and give him limitless chances for love whether he deserves it or not. Also, was she not the one who always looked for the good in people?

I sincerely hope that the good Belle comes back soon before any irreversible regrets can be made. If Belle lets her forgiveness and ability to see goodness in people die, then the good side of Belle will die with them.
